ATTEND

Adolescents and carers using mindfulness Therapy to END depression

WHAT IS ATTEND?

ATTEND is a research study testing a new treatment for depression in adolescents called MAC (Mindfulness for Adolescents and Carers). Although we currently do not know the effectiveness of MAC, previous mindfulness-based therapies suggest positive results. The ATTEND study is a chance for you to work with us to test and develop an effective treatment for depression in young people.

What is the purpose of ATTEND?

ATTEND Quotes

Having depression as a teenager can have a big impact on friendships, family, education and employment. Many young people can still experience depression symptoms or depressive episodes despite treatment. It may seem like it’s following you around…

We want to understand if MAC can help young people and their families learn to recognise unhelpful thoughts and feelings. We also want to see how it equips young people with stress coping strategies. Over time, we want to know if symptoms of depression and low mood improve and are less likely to persist with MAC. 480 young people will be recruited across the country to understand how well MAC works.

“Our main goal is to see if our mindfulness course can help teenagers recover from depression”

Dr Tamsin Ford, Principal Investigator.

“Mindfulness teaches you to think… I can actually continue enjoying my coffee”

Katrina Nellist, PPIE Co-ap.
